Festivals - Ethirelpu
The ‘Ethirelpu mahotsavam’ is conducted without fail for 7 days from Malayalam month Vrischikam 25 to Dhanu 1. This is reminiscent of escorting Devi to the new temple from the ‘Bhajanalayam’ and the old custom of worshipping devi with ‘padmamitttu pooja’. The first four days of the procession is in Valu (sword) and vattaka (special oil lamp) and the last three days in ‘Jeevata’. The last three days of procession is conducted by Puthukkundam, Vadakke kara, Thekke kara respectively. The divine procession accompanied by ‘vadyam’ (traditional orchestra) is magnificent and cannot be explained in words.
